51 Local Organizations

The Rock Island Community Foundation awarded $96,023 to 51 community organizations for the 2011 year! This year there were 81 requests for funding totaling $321,623.74. The Board of Governors was grateful to see so many worthy organizations apply, making funding decisions difficult this year.

Following are the 2011 Grant Recipients:

Alleman High School: to purchase two new computers for the Alleman High School Library – $1,470.00
American Red Cross: for assistance to Rock Island families following an emergency residential fire – $ 3,300.00
Augustana College: for Rock Island students to attend the Augustana Summer Enrichment Academy, in 2012 - $1,200.00
Ballet Quad Cities: to fund presentations of "Anne Frank: From the Pages of a Young Girl's Life” in Rock Island schools - $2,400.00
Bethany for Children & Families: for counseling and case management in the Phoenix Day Treatment program and Direct Intervention Program - $2,411.00
Black Hawk College Foundation: to purchase two ELMO document cameras for ESL program housed at 11th Street, Rock Island - $898.00
Child Abuse Council: to purchase a digital camera - $250.00
Children's Therapy Center of the Quad Cities, NFP: to purchase serial casting equipment and supplies for physical and occupational therapy - $2,055.00
Christian Care: for Domestic Violence Inventory (DVI) Pre and Post Assessment tools - $500.00
Christian Friendliness: for Rock Island teens to attend Camp Summit in Summer 2012- $2,625.00
Church of Peace United Church of Christ: for the Book Nook program and the window repair project - $2,000.00
Figge Art Museum: for The Big Picture program that will serve Rock Island Elementary Schools in art education - $1,500.00
Friendship Manor: to support the Pride of Friendship 2013 campaign in re-modeling rooms in Silver Cross Health and Rehabilitation Pavilion - $2,000.00
German American Heritage Center: for Rock Island groups to experience "The White Rose" exhibit coming in 2012 - $500.00
Girls Scouts of Eastern Iowa & Western Illinois: for the new "Journey" program - $2,000.00
Good Samaritan Free Clinic: to assist Rock Island residents who are in need of the Prescription Assistance Program - $2,500.00
Habitat for Humanity: for the renovation of the Habitat home located at 1004 9th Street, Rock Island - $2,500.00
Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy: to provide funding for two IMSA Community Science Nights - $500.00
Jewish Federation of the Quad Cities: for the upcoming exhibit at Rock Island Main Library: "A Tribute to the Children in the Holocaust: Portrait Collages that Bridge the Gap Between Then and Now" - $1,100.00
Jordan Catholic School: for the purchase of one SMART Board system for a 3rd grade classroom as part of completing Jordan Catholic School's 5-year technology plan - $3,200.00
Junior Board of Rock Island: funding the Nutrition Education portion of Junior Board of Rock Island's Project NEST program - $840.00
Just Kids Early Care & Education Centers: for the purchase of a 6-passenger stroller for the newly expanded infant program- $920.00
Keep Rock Island Beautiful: to purchase new safety vests for volunteers participating in all Keep Rock Island Beautiful events - $1,000.00
Marriage and Family Counseling Service: for the expansion of the parent-education program serving Latino families residing in Rock Island - $1,500.00
Martin Luther King Jr. Center, Inc: for funding after-school programming and activities at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center - $6,000.00
Opportunity Kicks: for soccer-program expenses serving Rock Island athletes showing financial need - $500.00
Pregnancy Resources: to purchase new brochures and supplies for educational outreach for jr. high and high school students - $1,000.00
Putnam Museum and Imax Theatre: to provide the opportunity for Rock Island students to visit the museum and participate in the many educational opportunities the Putnam offers - $2,400.00
Quad Cities Community Broadcasting Group: to provide funding toward the production of Public Service Announcements for WGVV's "Be Positive" Media Campaign - $1,500.00
Quad City Animal Welfare Center: for the completion of Quad City Animal Welfare Center's kids riddle and pet care book - $524.00
Quad City Arts: for the Visiting Artist Series Arts-in-Education program in Rock Island schools during the 2011-2012 school year - $1,000.00
Quad City Symphony Orchestra: for the Neighborhood Concerts Program for the Rock Island/Milan Schools' 2011-12 school year - $2,500.00
Rebuilding Together Quad Cities: for materials for projects exclusively in Rock Island - $2,500.00
Rock Island County Historical Society: to create, index and update their internet database - $2,100.00
Rock Island County Senior Center - Project Now: for Project Now's Senior Transportation Program for seniors and disabled adults living in Rock Island - $2,500.00
Rock Island Public Library Foundation: for the purchase of laptop computers to enhance Rock Island Public Library's mobile computer lab - $3,000.00
RIMSD #41 - Rock Island High School Special Education Department: for the Technology Now program; enabling students to participate in the School to Work Program - $1,500.00
RIMSD #41 - Thurgood Marshall Learning Center: for the Express Kitchen program; covering the purchase of a free standing range, electrical work, fry pans and food storage containers - $2,000.00
RIMSD #41 - Francis Willard Elementary: for the Francis Willard Book Shack program - $500.00
SBC Outreach Music & Arts Academy: to continue the SBC Outreach Music & Arts Academy; giving the opportunity for students and adults to experience the numerous benefits of music - $2,500.00
School Health LINK Inc.: to support LINK's Integrated Behavioral Health program by funding on-site therapy; serving Rock Island school-age children - $ 2,000.00
Skip-A-Long Child Development Services: for the replacement of an original HVAC system unit at Rock Island Skip-A-Long Campus - $4,000.00
Southpark Presbyterian Church: for the cost of computer lab supplies for their Junior High Drop-In Center - $430.00
Spring Forward Learning Center: to provide educational enrichment for students in the Rock Island/Milan communities - $2,000.00
St. Ambrose University: for students from Rock Island showing financial need to attend St. Ambrose Science programs in Summer 2012 - $2,500.00
St. Joseph the Worker House Association: to fund Project Clean Up - $1,000.00 Transitions : for direct mental health counseling services to at-risk students at Rock Island High School - $2,400.00
Two Rivers YMCA: to provide funding for Y-Solutions; helping Rock Island School District teens develop a positive vision and goals for their future - $3,500.00
WQPT: to assist in bringing Diane Nash to the Quad Cities for the NAACP's Freedom Fund Banquet at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center; making The Freedom Riders a civil rights education outreach program for Rock Island Schools - $ 2,000.00
Youthbuild Quad Cities: to fund trainee stipends for the Rock Island youth participating in the Youthbuild Program - $2,000.00
YWCA of the Quad Cities: to replace the current hand rail system leading to 2nd floor of the YWCA building - $3,000.00
